St. Nicholas Pre-school Playgroup, Hurst.

About our pre-school...

Our Curriculum

Our pre-school prepares the child for compulsory education and our curriculum consists of many varied activities and takes into consideration each child's ability. We follow the Early Years Learning Goals as set out by the Department of Education and aim for early literacy, numeracy and the development of personal and social skills. We have a strong relationship with the local school, St Nicholas Primary School.

Childrens Activities

Our daily sessions include free access to books, many craft activities, a home corner, an up to date computer, a wide variety of toys and two outdoor play area's.

Through a wide range of activities and resources, all the areas of the Early Years Learning Goals are met.

Free Play

Our free play sessions provide valuable learning opportunities in everything the children do. They develop independence in selecting an activity and in dressing and personal hygiene. They learn to take turns and to share fairly.

In play children experiment with possibilites and become more flexible in thinking and problem-solving. They learn to use their imagination and to work alone as well as with others. Play provides the best learning opportunities for children of all ages and we feel it is vital in these important pre-school years.

Location and sessions

Located in the Small Village Hall in Hurst, we meet between 9.00 and 11.30am in the mornings and 12.30 and 3.00pm in the afternoons. Fees are currently £8.00 per session. Government funding is available for children in the term after their 3rd birthday, to cover up to five sessions per week.

We run a Lunch Club between 11.30am and 12.30pm where children can bring a packed lunch to eat before or after their session. It also means we are able to accept children for a full day from 9.00am to 3.00pm.
